1. Yamabudou Basket Bags and Accessories

Crafted by Yoko Tomita, an expert in working with vine and rattan,
the Yamabudou bags and accessories showcase her refined skills.
Each bag is meticulously crafted, including the inner lining.
The baskets are woven using techniques such as “midare ami” (random weaving),
“uroko ami” (scale weaving), “kumo no su ami” (spider web weaving),
“hana musubi” (flower knots), and a checkered pattern of walnuts and wild grapes.
These masterfully crafted basket bags are designed to be passed down
from parent to child, treasured for generations.
2. Soseisoudo’s YO-FUKU
Made in Japan
“Soseisoudo”, located in a small town at the northern tip of Hokkaido called Bifuka,
creates warm clothing and shawls by felting wool from local sheep.
Their approach is sustainable, making use of wool that would otherwise be discarded
at local farms.

Printmaker Kunio Sato
Born in 1952 in Hokkaido, Kunio Sato studied Buddhist Studies at Toyo University’s
Department of Literature. While working in carpentry,
he continued creating woodblock prints inspired by the works of Kenji Miyazawa.
He became an independent printmaker in 1997. He holds solo exhibitions nationwide,
including in Hakodate and Tokyo. He goes by the nickname
“Dr. Wildcat” and writes witty and satirical essays for
Hokkaido Shimbun in a column called “Dr. Wildcat’s Soliloquy,
” which combines woodblock prints with humor.
His publications include the picture books Night on the Galactic Railroad (Hokkaido Shimbunsha),
The Restaurant of Many Orders (English version by R.I.C. Publishing),
and Forest Songs (Fukuinkan Shoten).
